Sheet Metal Thickness Gauge Chart

What is sheet metal charts?
Sheet metal gauge charts link gauge numbers (16 ga, 18 ga) to actual thickness in millimetres and inches for each metal. The key idea is that a lower gauge number means a thicker sheet.
How it works:
· Gauge is a numbering system that corresponds to a nominal sheet thickness. It is not a direct unit like mm or inches.
· Gauge scales differ by material (steel, aluminium, copper, etc.) so 16 gauge steel and 16 gauge aluminium are not the same thickness.
· Higher gauge number corresponds to lower sheet thickness and lower gauge number to higher sheet thickness.
Why do we need a gauge chart?
· Gauge charts lists each gauge number with its corresponding thickness in mm and inches for each metal family.
· Using the gauge charts avoids errors when choosing material for strength and weight.
